2012 Miami Marlins Consensus Top 27 Prospects

Introduction

I have created a cumulative prospect list for each team based on other (more knowledgeable) peoples’ lists. Each time a prospect appears on a list, he gets a number of points (21 minus his ranking). The prospect with the largest amount of points is ranked first. I will be posting each team once they have been completed by all of my sources. You can find a link to all of the other teams top prospects on the Team Prospects page. Clicking on the links below will take you to the team’s list on each respective site.

I included another column to the table named “Con. Rank,” which is the consensus overall ranking of each prospect, as compiled by me.

Two of the lists were not updated to account for the Michael Pineda/Jesus Montero/Jose Campos trade. In order to account for this, I found Campos’s average ranking from the rest of the lists and ranked him there on the two lists that missed him. The points are still added up in the same way as before.

I included another column to the table named “Con. Rank,” which is the consensus overall ranking of each prospect, as compiled by me.

2012 Fantasy Prospect Draft

If you follow me on Twitter, you’re probably aware of a dynasty league prospect draft that I won’t shut up about. Well after this post, maybe I finally will.

Last year, I joined my first dynasty league. It is a 12-team, 6×6 league with R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG and OPS for hitters and W, K, HLD, SV, WHIP and ERA for pitchers. Each team has an MLB roster of 30: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, CI, MI, 5 OF, 1 UTIL, 10 P, 7 Bench. In addition to that, each team has a prospect roster of 12. These players must have fewer than 150 MLB at-bats or 100 innings pitched and must have been originally been acquired through draft or trade. Finally, all players can be kept for the eternity of their career with no restrictions or consequences.

Someone else already had my team for a year, so the major league roster was already in place. There were a few studs like Tim Lincecum, Felix Hernandez, Jose Reyes, Brian McCann and David Ortiz, but the team was just not good enough overall to truly compete for a championship. So, I decided to go prospecting. The trades I made will be discussed below, but I gave away a lot of top quality in order to have an extremely solid group of prospects for the future.

I knew that the quality of prospects available in the 2012 draft would be much higher than possibly ever, so I wanted to get as many of them as I could. A majority of the top prospects in 2011 were gone (Bryce Harper, Matt Moore, etc.) but all of the players in the 2011 Rule 4 draft were available, along with some breakout guys.

Without further ado, I present to you my 2012 Dynasty League Prospect Draft:
