2012 Consensus Top 185 Prospects

On Friday, I took a look at 14 different prospect lists. Today, I will post the consensus Top 185 from these lists. Every time a player appears on a list, he is given 101-ranking number of points (A ranking of 1 gives 100 points). All of the points are added up and the player with the highest total is ranked at the top. The reason I do this instead of taking the average ranking is very simple: It’s better. Take Aaron Hicks, for example. He appears on five lists with an average ranking of 62. However, his total points ranking is 87. We must take into account the fact that not all players are ranked by all lists, so an average ranking is misleading. Finally, I did exclude all players beyond the top 100 for each list.

Most lists had the same criteria for eligibility (rookie status); however, some lists did not include international free agents, namely Yu Darvish and Yoenis Cespedes. I have included these players at the spot of their average ranking when ranked.
